Why You Need To To Hate Yourself (Sometimes) | The Influence of Social Media on Toxic Body Positivity

We are back with another episode of A Tall Girl’s Podcast! So glad you can make it! Before I get into this, I just want to say make sure you are following me on my socials @atallgirlspodcast on Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest so that you can stay updated on the latest podcast episodes and check out some relatable tall girl content.
So today, we are talking about toxic body positivity; don’t we just love that topic? And yes, social media does play a heavy role in making the body positivity movement extremely toxic. Now, you may be thinking to yourself: “How does social media make body positivity toxic? India, don’t you run social media accounts about body positivity for tall girls?” Yes, I do, BUT, I do want to say it depends on the content you are consuming.
I feel like with my content, I try to embrace the good, the bad, and the evil. I talk about what I love about being tall and what I STRONGLY DISLIKE about it lol. I embrace the beauty and the embarrassment of it. But…with social media, all you see is the good. The good parts, the happy parts, the positive parts. When it comes to social media, I believe that you almost feel pressured to love yourself, love your body, love how you look 24/7. It can almost be excessive at a certain point.
Because these posts make you feel that if you don’t love yourself and your body 24/7, then you suck and your life is in shambles. And that’s so far from the truth. If you have your days where you don’t like yourself, it doesn’t mean that your life sucks, it literally means that you’re a normal human being. It’s normal to experience both good AND bad feelings.
Ok but what is toxic body positivity? And how does social media make us feel bad about not constantly loving ourselves? Tune in to the full episode to find out!
