Tall Girl Storytime: I Bought My First Pair of Heels and Got Judged For It

tall girls can wear heels, heels, high heels, tall girl shopping, storytime

Hey beautiful :) Why did that sound a little corny in my head? Haha. Anyways, I’m glad you’re here. Are you ready for another tall girl storytime? I think you are. As you can tell by the title, I’m going to talk about buying my first pair of heels. Yes, believe it or not tall women WEAR HEELS TOO. Isn’t that insane? That’s crazy right? I know, I know.

Now, I know that this can be a kind of touchy topic for us tall women because some of us think that we’re too tall for heels and all that. But if you like it, WEAR IT. IF it looks good, WEAR IT. Just because people will be staring at you because they’re taken aback by your confidence and beauty, does not mean that you should limit yourself to just flats. I’m sorry. I may be going off on a rant but that’s just how I feel. Whatever makes you feel happy and beautiful, do it :)

Growing up, I’ve never really had any type of good experiences with heels. Everytime I put them on, I’m instantly on the ground a second later. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I wasn’t comfortable with my own height. Maybe it was because I only tried on 6-inch heels. WHO KNOWS. I just know that it was not a fun time in my life.

This is why I’m shocked that I was even able to happily and comfortably purchase a pair. I never thought that I would see the day that I can wear heels and ACTUALLY feel comfortable. Yes, I was taller than every single person who walked into that store. Yes, when I was trying them on everyone was staring at me like “who is this freaky giant?”. But hell, I looked good. And felt good. Like REALLY GOOD. In fact, so good that I started walking around the store like I was on a model runway. Vogue where you at??

I should probably let you guys know how the heels looked. It was a pair of nude block heels that had those straps around the ankle. I’ll insert a picture because I don’t know if what you just read made any sense.

And once I’m minding my own business and feeling myself in these shoes, that’s when it goes all downhill. It seems like whenever you mind your own business and are happy in your little world, that’s when people find ways to bring negativity into your life. Like stop, that’s gross. So I settled for the nude heels that I purchased, and I sat down on those little seat things that shoe stores. I started taking them off and one of the ladies that worked there came over and asked how I felt about them.

I was all giddy and stuff and told her that I really liked them and that I wanted to purchase them. And guess what she decided to say to me. Any other normal salesperson or whoever would just take the shoes to the cash register. But her? No. She said to me “Are you sure you want those? Because they’ll make you taller than you already are.” HUH????? I couldn’t even begin to think WHY she said that to me. How did I react? Listen to my podcast episode ;)
