Gewd morning everybody! Welcome back (or welcome) to another blog/episode of A Tall Girl’s Podcast. I am so happy that you are here right now; today’s episode is actually a request from one of my lovely followers on Pinterest so shout out to her! As you can probably tell, today I will be talking about social anxiety.
Now, I just want to say a super quick disclaimer, I am not a medical or mental health professional at all. I am not going to school for this; this advice is just from my experience and opinion, so please take it with a grain of salt.
Social anxiety, as defined by healthline.com, is a disorder that causes extreme fear in social settings. So you may have trouble talking to people and meeting new people or you’re scared of being judged or scrutinized by others. And after learning this definition, I kind of feel like I may have had some trouble with this growing up, but like I said before, I am not a professional so I technically can’t diagnose myself.
But I really did have a huge fear of people judging me because of my height. People have made fun of me so much because of it and I’ve gotten so many stares from people that I genuinely used to get extremely anxious. My heart would start pounding really fast, my hands would get extremely sweaty, and my ears would even turn red.
I honestly don’t think it’s the fact that I am tall that caused it, but rather how people treated me because of my height. It could be the stares in public to the jokes, whether sly comments or blatant disrespect to the simple fact that people were afraid of me. And social anxiety is not just a tall person thing; it can really be anyone that struggles with this.
But how do we overcome our social anxiety? Check out some tips in my full episode below!
Thank you so much for listening to this episode. I really appreciate it. As always, feel free to hit me up on my socials @atallgirlspodcast on Instagram, Pinterest, and TikTok.
