Tall Girl Storytime: I Almost Went Out With A Guy Who Lied About His Height | He Tried To ROB Me
We’re back with another storytime! I’m shocked I don’t do these more often; I have so many strange stories, especially ones that revolve around me being tall. I actually asked my followers in an Instagram poll, by the way if you don’t follow me, I’m @atallgirlspodcast on Instagram, Pinterest, and Tik Tok, what they had wanted to hear next, and a storytime won BY A LANDSLIDE. So, ask and you shall receive, am I right?
So, this whole thing took place when I was about 15 or 16; I was about a sophomore in high school, and this was my first ever international trip, which was to Colombia. My dad’s friends had invited us there and they happened to have nieces that were around my age, so we figured that would be perfect. So we went, I met the nieces, they were shockingly tall, too (like they were the same height as me), bla bla bla all that good stuff.
The nieces and I went to a park one day. We were talking when I noticed that there were these two guys looking over at us. I didn’t think too much of it because I get those stares even in America. I feel like every tall person knows people stare at them because of their height. And then being surrounded by two other tall people? Not surprising at all that we’re getting stares. But after a while, I began to notice that they were still staring VERY INTENSELY at us. It wasn’t long before one of them came up to us to “strike up a conversation”.
And he did just that. He just came up to us and started speaking to us in Spanish. Did I know what he was saying? NOPE. I was studying French at the time and that definitely did not come in handy. But long story short, one of the nieces translated that his friend wanted my number. I looked over at the other man and he just smiled and waved at me. I was like okay, he seems friendly. Then, I did the SMARTEST THING I could have done in this entire story, and that was tell the same niece to give him HER phone number instead of mine. And she did that.
Fast forward, a couple hours later, the niece gets a text from the guy at the park. He told her that he wanted to take me out. That was very forward of him, but also this man didn’t know me. Like I could literally be a serial killer! (I’m not, though by the way). But I was a minor at the time, and that day at the park, he looked about in his 20s. I don’t know about the laws there in Colombia, but in America, that’s not a good look. And you would think, I would ask him his age. NOPE! I told her to ask him how tall he was. ABOVE ALL THINGS! What was I on????
The funniest thing was his response. He said 6’3. SIX FEET AND THREE INCHES. And I believed it! I really was acting like this wasn’t a red flag. But, nonetheless, I agreed to meet him the next day.
