Why People Make Fun Of Your Height and How To Deal With It

Hey you! Have you been bullied before? What a random question to ask lol. But chances are, you have been. We all have been bullied at some time in our life. It could be because of our ethnicity, present living situation, and even our heights. Yes, our heights! One of the things about ourselves that we can't really control.
I know that this is a podcast geared toward tall people, especially tall women, but I feel like this topic can apply to people of all heights. Tall, short, average, whatever it may be. Someone WILL find something wrong about it and it's tragic. Why would someone do that? How do you genuinely find the time and/or energy to constantly make fun of another person and possibly one of their insecurities? I guess we'll find out right now.
I first want to say that I am in no way shape or form trying to psychoanalyze anyone or anything. Everyone has different personal reasons for putting others down that's unique to them and everyone has different personal experiences. I'm just speaking from my experience and that might not necessarily be the same as yours
The Influence of the Media
We live in the day and age of technology. Almost everything that we choose to believe and see is on a phone or a laptop or some type of screen. And these things, whether posts, pictures, videos, movies, whatever it is, play a HUGE role in bullying. Especially social media. I don't think I'll ever stop talking about social media and its role on self-esteem and bullying.
Everyone has different ideas of "perfection", but if a user thinks too much of one specific viewpoint, that person will genuinely believe it to be true. For example, if they keep seeing people make fun of tall girls, they will believe it's fine to act that out in the real world. They will start to find faults in other tall women and keep spreading the hate that is present on social media. If you want more on this topic, be sure to check out my episode on social media and heightism.
Sadly, social media is NOT the only reason that people make fun of other people's heights. Check out my full episode to hear more and how to deal with it!
