How do we feel about reality TV? Like it? Don’t like it? I’ve been getting a lot into Love Island UK. You’d think I would watch Love Island USA for obvious reasons but I stream on my sister’s Hulu account and Love Island USA is not on there but Love Island UK is. And I’ve been watching it for the past few weeks. Before I would say that the whole thing is stupid, but now I’m thoroughly entertained by it lol. So, if you watch Love Island UK and wanna gossip about it, you know where to find me.
And speaking of the USA, please make sure you’re keeping up with politics and the news so you can make an informed decision in November 2024. And if you can, register to vote!
This week’s topic of discussion is overconsumption, which is basically the excessive purchase of items that aren’t really necessary for…surviving. This is a pretty popular topic, especially on TikTok, where there are many examples of overconsumption. Kitchen organizers are one of them. Many creators take their food that’s already in packaging to put it into the organizers with labels or “for the aesthetic”. The “TikTok made me buy it” trend is also a big one. Or buying trendy home decor that you don’t use often. And fashion, of course, is up there.
Overconsumption has been a massive topic of discussion these days, and I will say that this definitely affects the tall girl community, especially with tall fashion creators. Yes, it’s great to use your platform to educate others on what’s out there, but sometimes I feel like the frequent hauls and try-ons are a bit excessive.
I mean, it’s honestly not just tall fashion creators; it’s all fashion creators and fashion influencers. And no tea, no shade to them, obviously, because this is their job or hobby. To create content surrounding clothes and ultimately be an advertiser for these brands that they work with. And that leads to the public convincing themselves that they need the items that these creators are showing to them.
What are the negative effects of overconsumption? And how can we combat it? Tune in to the full episode for more information!
Thank you so so much for tuning in to this episode; I really appreciate it and I appreciate you. As always, feel free to hit me up on my socials and let me know what you thought about this episode. Goodnight and goodbyyyyyeee,
India
