I Watched The Movie “Tall Girl” and This Is What I Have To Say…

I’m not even going to include an introduction here but I feel like you’re judging the crap out of me right now. Yes, this movie came out literally 2 years ago. And yes, I’m just watching it 2 years later. You may be wondering why I even bothered to watch it at this point. But I’m a TALL GIRL. I HAD TO. I really couldn’t have “A Tall Girl’s Podcast” without watching Tall Girl. I just couldn’t.
QUICK DISCLAIMER: This write-up and my podcast episode that you’re going to listen to has a bunch of spoilers. So, if you haven’t seen the movie yet (haha I highly doubt that) and you still want to watch it, I suggest you watch it before tuning in :)
First, I want to talk about some of the characters in this movie and just give a few of my impressions on them. First up is Kimmy. I really disliked her, which means she played her part pretty well. She’s one of those typical characters in those teen movies that bullies the protagonist and is the popular girl and yada yada ya. Honestly, her character was a bit dry though. She had no backstory, no known source of hate, no other dimension to her besides being mean and controlling. I feel like she’s a watered down Regina George.
Ok Luke is next. I’m not going to lie, when I first saw him, I thought he and Jodi were related. I was like “Is that her long lost brother from Sweden?” Honestly, if you don’t look too hard, you can’t really tell them apart. I think it may have to do with the fact that they’re both blonde and close to each other in height. Anyways, once I saw Kimmy talking to and flirting with him, I immediately thought “That’s a wrap! No matter the outcome, I don’t like him”. ESPECIALLY when he started talking crap about Jodi in front of everyone at Dunkleman’s party. Like that was such a low blow and then to come back at the end and be like “Jodi I like you take me back” AHA NOPE. I’m glad she rejected him because how dare he.
Speaking of that party, can we talk about Dunkleman for a sec. He may be short (5 feet and 7 inches to be exact, yes I looked it up and I’m pretty sure you did too if you watched the movie), but he is my SPIRIT ANIMAL. Well...he’s not that much shorter than me, only about 3 inches, but whatever. He wasn’t afraid to tell it how it is and stand up to ANYONE. He was super mature when he told Jodi that he was going to let her go because he thought his chances with her were dead. And MIND YOU he’s been trying to get with a girl who was taller than him FOR YEARS. That’s the confidence I aspire to have. Also, I think I called Dunkleman “Dunkerman” several times in my podcast episode and I didn’t even realize it, until I put it up haha. I think it’s because Luke called him “Dunkers” at one point and that just stuck in my head.

What about Jodi? I saved her for my podcast episode. You’re welcome. Give it a listen because there’s sooooooooo much to say about her character.
