But first, let’s introduce exactly what the tall girl influencer space is. It’s essentially a niche community of content creators on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube who represent and cater to tall women. They often share the joys, experiences, and struggles of being a tall girl as well as clothing tips/outfit inspo, dating, and how to navigate the world with confidence as a tall woman.
Now, this space is very very niche, but we’re often misrepresented or overlooked in mainstream media. Hence why, tall girl influencers/creators try to portray what it’s truly like to be a tall woman. However, not all of their content is about being tall, but most of it is.
Anyways, so what’s the deal with people only hyping up tall thin women? Are tall curvy/plus-sized women more likely to be criticized both online and offline? Tune in to the full episode for more!

[00:00:32] I just want to start off by saying I apologize in advance for my voice. I'm getting over a little, a little icky sicky icky, if you know what I mean.
[00:00:41] And on top of that, I did karaoke. So in combination with being icky sicky icky and screaming into a microphone,
[00:00:51] let's just say that two days ago I did not have a voice, like at all.
[00:00:55] But anyways, it came back and here we are. I hope you had a very happy holidays, a very merry Christmas,
[00:01:03] and a happy new year because by the time this is up, it'll already be the new year.
[00:01:07] Happy new year as well. First episode of 2025, period.
[00:01:12] I hope you had a great time with a lot of food and spending time with loved ones and so forth and so on.
[00:01:19] And I'm going to say that I was very stressed for much of that period because I work in marketing.
[00:01:25] So I'm only sure you can imagine how stressful that time period was, but we made it.
[00:01:30] We made it through and we made it to 2025 and here we are, period.
[00:01:34] I also want to say a big thank you for an amazing 2024 with meeting some of you guys at the Tall Size Pop-Up Shop,
[00:01:42] all of the amazing collaborations I've had, all the new followers and listeners that I've gained.
[00:01:47] I'm just extremely, extremely grateful for you all.
[00:01:49] So I just wanted to take some time and say thank you so much for being here.
[00:01:53] Honestly, this podcast wouldn't be possible without you.
[00:01:56] So cheers to 2024 and here's to an amazing and fruitful 2025.
[00:02:02] Now let's get into the episode.
[00:02:04] This entire episode is actually based on a TikTok video that I found.
[00:02:08] I'm just going to play it right now.
[00:02:10] I know there's layers to every category of diversity issues and whatnot, but I'm going to just say this.
[00:02:15] When it comes to tall people and tall influencers, you only really hype up tall influencers when they are skinny.
[00:02:25] All the videos I ever see of tall girl stuff, tall relatable stuff, like those viral and they become like these tall girl figures is when they're skinny.
[00:02:35] And when they're not skinny, they are fetish, fetish accounts for tall women.
[00:02:42] Is that the only avenue in which we're allowed to exist?
[00:02:45] Do I have to be skinny and not dark skin to be like this tall girl figure?
[00:02:54] Because as someone that, and if you've followed me, you know I've struggled a lot with a lot of fetishization of my height and my body.
[00:03:02] And I also see a lot of tall girl accounts.
[00:03:06] If you look up tall girl, bro, sometimes you will see those fetish accounts of like tall girls using their bodies for like to promote, you know, whatever.
[00:03:13] Reprimandants, I'm not against the only fan girls.
[00:03:16] Do what you got to do.
[00:03:18] But why can't there just be a regular average body tall girl?
[00:03:23] Why are the only options to be tall and skinny?
[00:03:26] And when I mean skinny guys, I really mean skinny.
[00:03:28] Tall and skinny to be relatable or to be, you know, curvier and thicker and tall and then to be fetishized.
[00:03:37] What is the spectrum?
[00:03:40] What is the spectrum?
[00:03:41] I don't fit into one and I do not want to be in the other.
[00:03:44] I'm in this awkward gray space and it can be really frustrating as a creator.
[00:03:50] And I want to dive into this real quick.
[00:03:52] Well, not real quick, but let's talk about it.
[00:03:55] First, let's introduce exactly what the tall girl influencer space is.
[00:04:00] It's essentially a niche community of content creators on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube even,
[00:04:07] who essentially represent and cater to tall women.
[00:04:10] They share their experiences, their struggles, their ups and downs relating to being tall.
[00:04:15] They also share clothing tips and outfit inspo, dating stories, and how to navigate the world with confidence when we literally stand out in the crowd.
[00:04:25] This space is very unique, very niche because we're often overlooked or misrepresented in the media.
[00:04:31] So essentially, it's to showcase, you know, and be representative of the tall girl population.
[00:04:36] But you know, it's not strictly like tall girl content.
[00:04:39] It's also lifestyle content, what they do, etc.
[00:04:42] But it is mostly tall girl related stuff.
[00:04:45] So yes, there are literal tall girl influencers out there.
[00:04:48] And it's funny when people, spoiler alert, there are not tall women,
[00:04:51] say that it's ridiculous to build a platform about being tall.
[00:04:54] But like, if you don't get it, then it's pretty clear that you are not and should not be part of the tall girl community.
[00:05:00] I already told you.
[00:05:02] The girls that get it, get it.
[00:05:04] The girls that don't, don't.
[00:05:06] We're here to represent.
[00:05:07] So bye-bye.
[00:05:09] I ran a poll over on my Instagram because, you know,
[00:05:12] I follow a lot of tall girls and a lot of tall girls follow me, period, point blank.
[00:05:15] And I asked, do you consider yourself to be a tall girl influencer?
[00:05:20] 17% of you guys said, yep, got me a whole community.
[00:05:24] 0% said, no girl, what is that?
[00:05:27] And 83% said, lol, I'm just existing here.
[00:05:30] And honestly, if you're just existing, I love that for you.
[00:05:34] Keep doing your thing.
[00:05:35] I did a poll over on my Instagram yet again.
[00:05:38] And I'm just going to plug my Instagram at a tall girls podcast.
[00:05:41] If you want your opinion, your voice heard on these episodes,
[00:05:45] make sure you follow me over on Instagram so that you can participate in these polls.
[00:05:50] But I did ask you guys, do you think tall girl influencers are real, quote unquote, real influencers?
[00:05:56] 57% of y'all said, hell yeah, I keep up with them a lot.
[00:06:00] And that's on period.
[00:06:01] We love that.
[00:06:02] 4% said, not really.
[00:06:03] 39% of you said, depends on the content they post, which honestly makes a lot of sense.
[00:06:08] Some popular tall girl influencers include the Worth twins, Natasha Burns, and Blissful Ellie.
[00:06:16] And what do these influencers slash creators have in common?
[00:06:19] Well, there's two, but we'll just cover one thing.
[00:06:22] They're skinny or slim.
[00:06:24] I'm probably going to use those two terms interchangeably because I don't know,
[00:06:28] I don't really like the term skinny that much because I've been ridiculed for that when I was younger.
[00:06:33] So, but for the purposes of this video, I'm just going to use those two interchangeably.
[00:06:39] Which brings me to the next point that the creator made about, you know, hyping up tall women who are skinny.
[00:06:45] You're pretty, you're just not tall and skinny.
[00:06:47] That's essentially what social media is telling tall girls, especially with the basic outfit,
[00:06:52] because being tall and skinny is the outfit trend.
[00:06:55] Last time I checked, an outfit is something that anyone can wear, not a body type.
[00:06:59] But okay.
[00:07:01] It kind of brings me back to that trend that's like, oh, is the fit good?
[00:07:05] Or is she just skinny?
[00:07:07] Where people of different body types would try out like different outfits that celebrities,
[00:07:12] especially women who are on the slimmer or skinnier side are wearing.
[00:07:17] I mean, some of the outfits that they had were kind of ugly, but people are saying, oh, she looks good.
[00:07:24] So people are saying, okay, are they just saying that because the outfit is actually good?
[00:07:29] Or is it because she's skinny?
[00:07:31] So people of different body types would basically replicate celebrity outfits to see if it was,
[00:07:36] to see if the outfit was good.
[00:07:37] And most of the time it really is just because the celebrity was skinny or slim.
[00:07:43] All right.
[00:07:44] So what's the hype with being tall and skinny?
[00:07:46] When exactly did this standard start?
[00:07:48] Of course, with modeling in the 70s and 80s, because that industry favored women with tall,
[00:07:54] slender bodies to showcase clothing like Twiggy.
[00:07:57] I mean, she's not tall, I believe, but the name stood out to me because twig, twiggy, skinny,
[00:08:03] you know what I mean?
[00:08:04] But essentially, Twiggy set the bar for this ideal.
[00:08:08] And this persisted into the 80s and 90s with Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford.
[00:08:13] So that tall and thin ideal also became popular in mainstream media and advertising.
[00:08:18] Perpetuating the idea that tall and thin means beauty and worthy of attention.
[00:08:25] And essentially, this kind of rolls over into the social media world where this ideal is
[00:08:30] basically prioritized, especially on Instagram and TikTok.
[00:08:34] A lot of the creators who are tall, but on the slimmer or skinnier side get a lot of positive
[00:08:41] engagement.
[00:08:42] So they get likes, they get positive comments like, oh, you're literally perfect or you're
[00:08:48] beautiful.
[00:08:49] And this is especially in the videos where they show their body.
[00:08:52] Okay, not in an inappropriate way, but you know, when they do outfit videos, styling videos,
[00:08:58] or they're just like on the screen, but you can see a lot of their body or like their whole
[00:09:03] entire body.
[00:09:03] And because of this constant engagement, the algorithm essentially starts pushing it out
[00:09:08] more and more people see it.
[00:09:10] And you know, that kind of like perpetuates the idea that kind of insinuates the idea
[00:09:15] that tall and skinny is cute.
[00:09:17] Tall and skinny is beautiful.
[00:09:18] And that's it.
[00:09:20] I asked you guys over on a poll on Instagram, do tall girls have to have a certain look to
[00:09:26] gain huge amounts of popularity on social media?
[00:09:29] 25% said not really.
[00:09:31] It's about gaining a community.
[00:09:32] And I honestly agree with this because with social media nowadays, it's all about representation.
[00:09:41] You know, following people who look like you, following people who have the same struggles
[00:09:45] as you.
[00:09:46] So I definitely agree with that.
[00:09:49] 25% said, yeah, the masses like what they like.
[00:09:52] And half of you guys said it depends on the content that they post.
[00:09:55] Now that's not to say that they don't receive mean comments or hateful comments because there
[00:10:00] are some people out there that just really don't like tall women.
[00:10:04] But in my opinion, I feel like tall and thinner girls are more likely to receive more positive
[00:10:10] engagement overall or more than a tall career creators or tall curvy creators may get less
[00:10:18] engagement or more hate comments or more mean comments.
[00:10:23] So do tall curvy girls receive more criticism than tall thin girls?
[00:10:28] Honestly, it depends.
[00:10:29] But based on society's beauty standards for tall women or just women in general, I'd say
[00:10:34] that they're more likely to receive it both online and offline.
[00:10:37] I actually found a video of a kind of tall curvy creator asking tall curvy girls about
[00:10:44] their struggles.
[00:10:44] And I'm just going to play the video right now.
[00:10:46] This is an important question for all my tall curvy girls.
[00:10:49] What has been your biggest struggle being a tall curvy girl?
[00:10:51] Is it feeling feminine?
[00:10:53] Is it comparing yourselves to society's standards?
[00:10:56] Is it healing from yo-yo dieting?
[00:10:58] Let me know and I will find the answers to your problems.
[00:11:01] I'll do the research so you don't have to.
[00:11:03] And to be honest, the comments are kind of sad.
[00:11:06] One said that the boys in her class called her a linebacker.
[00:11:10] Another said that she's scared that men will think she's fat.
[00:11:14] And I'm not gonna lie.
[00:11:16] There's a common denominator here.
[00:11:18] And the rudeness comes from men.
[00:11:22] But that's a topic for another day.
[00:11:25] Anyways, but both online and offline, it seems like tall curvy women are figuratively hit a
[00:11:33] little harder because of a quote-unquote double whammy.
[00:11:36] Because already being tall, yes, not everybody hates tall people.
[00:11:39] But you know, people perceive us in a certain way because a woman is tall.
[00:11:44] But then they're on the curvier, more plus size realm as a woman.
[00:11:48] But what if there was a way out?
[00:11:50] How, you may ask?
[00:11:51] All you have to do is be fetishized.
[00:11:54] And actually, that's something that the tall creator in the beginning brought up.
[00:11:57] I'm gonna replay that part again.
[00:11:59] And when they're not skinny, they're fetish accounts for tall women.
[00:12:06] Is that the only avenue in which you are allowed to exist?
[00:12:09] Do I have to be skinny and not dark-skinned to be like this tall girl figure?
[00:12:17] Because as someone that, and if you've followed me, you know I've struggled a lot with a lot
[00:12:22] of fetishization of my height and my body.
[00:12:26] And I also see a lot of tall girl accounts.
[00:12:29] If you look up tall girl, bro, sometimes you will see those fetish accounts of like tall
[00:12:34] girls using their bodies for like to promote, you know, whatever.
[00:12:38] I'm not against the only fangirls.
[00:12:40] Do what you gotta do.
[00:12:42] But why can't there just be a regular, average body, tall girl?
[00:12:47] But I've done quite a few episodes talking about how tall women are fetishized, sexualized,
[00:12:52] you name it.
[00:12:53] And I'm likely gonna do another one in 2025 just from a different lens.
[00:12:57] I asked over on Instagram, do tall, curvy, plus-sized girls face a lot of criticism offline
[00:13:04] and online?
[00:13:06] 33% said, yeah, but that's low-key all tall girls in general.
[00:13:11] I kind of understand that.
[00:13:13] 39% said, yep, even more than the ideal type of tall girl.
[00:13:18] 11% said, no, tall women are treated well.
[00:13:21] And 17% said, depends on the context.
[00:13:25] But, uh, yeah, tall, curvy women, if you don't fit it to the mold, just over-sexualize yourself
[00:13:31] on social media and make money off of it.
[00:13:34] Yep, people make money off of that.
[00:13:36] No tea, no shade though, because groceries, especially as a tall person, is way too expensive.
[00:13:41] But, yeah, just in general, curvy, more plus-sized women are sexualized.
[00:13:48] Not just tall and curvy or tall and plus-sized women.
[00:13:51] It's just sad because it seems like as a tall and curvy or just in general, a curvy or more
[00:13:56] plus-sized woman, you can get quote-unquote positive attention.
[00:14:01] If you're sexualized, fetishized, objectified, hyper-feminized, all the eyes.
[00:14:08] And then a lot of women end up doing this for money.
[00:14:10] And like I said before, no tea, no shade.
[00:14:13] I'm just saying that with that, a lot of people think that it's okay that, okay, if
[00:14:17] these tall, curvy women, tall, plus-sized women are doing this, and I can say stuff like this
[00:14:23] under their page, that I could just do that to any tall and curvy or any tall, plus-sized
[00:14:29] woman.
[00:14:29] It's okay to sexualize any tall women, tall, curvy women.
[00:14:33] It's okay to fetishize them.
[00:14:34] And it's like, as tall women, some of us don't want that to happen.
[00:14:39] Like, we're out here just trying to exist on social media, you know?
[00:14:42] Build communities.
[00:14:43] But I think a great thing is not everybody, you know, hates on tall, curvy women.
[00:14:49] Some of them actually use their platform to build strong communities from it.
[00:14:54] And there's other tall, curvy women who feel confident, who feel good about themselves,
[00:14:59] who feel good about their body because of these creators.
[00:15:02] And that is honestly so amazing.
[00:15:05] Now that we got that out the way, I just want to bring up a different issue.
[00:15:08] I want to ask, is being tall as a woman acceptable if you're thin?
[00:15:13] We all know the whole thing with, oh, being tall as a woman is a bad thing.
[00:15:17] But with how society views tall, curvy, tall, plus-sized women versus how they view tall,
[00:15:23] thin, tall, skinnier women, you kind of have to ask.
[00:15:26] But if you know anything about me, if you know anything about this podcast, you know that
[00:15:30] we're all about being tall.
[00:15:32] We're all about loving our height.
[00:15:34] We're all about feeling confident in our height.
[00:15:36] The truth is, tall women come in different shapes, sizes, and vibes.
[00:15:40] And let me tell you, we slay in every single one of them.
[00:15:44] Period.
[00:15:45] Make sure you send this to a tall queen who needs to hear this.
[00:15:47] So in summary, people are more likely to hype up the thinner, the skinnier, the slimmer
[00:15:53] tall girl influencers.
[00:15:54] But that's just a standard overall.
[00:15:57] As a woman, if you're on social media and you're showcasing your body appropriately, or
[00:16:04] even inappropriately, but let's just say appropriately, people tend to favor the thinner, the skinnier,
[00:16:10] the slimmer woman.
[00:16:11] Because, I mean, I guess that means that they're fitter, more attractive, survival of the fittest,
[00:16:16] all that stuff that I don't understand because I didn't pay attention to that in my sixth
[00:16:20] grade science class.
[00:16:22] I feel like a lot of the backlash, a lot of the criticism towards tall, curvier women
[00:16:27] come from men.
[00:16:28] But that's just me.
[00:16:30] Because it's all about what they find attractive, right?
[00:16:32] Wrong.
[00:16:33] Okay?
[00:16:34] Honestly, what's most important is that we build strong communities of people who look like
[00:16:38] us, people who are like us.
[00:16:41] That's the most important part.
[00:16:43] If you're receiving hate from people in the outside world, online, social media, if they
[00:16:48] don't look like you, they have no reason to comment on your body.
[00:16:52] Do not listen.
[00:16:53] If it's not your doctor and they look absolutely nothing like you and they're making these rude
[00:16:59] comments, he's making these comments about your body, you do not need to listen to them.
[00:17:03] So yeah, that is my two cents.
[00:17:05] Thank you so much for tuning into this episode.
[00:17:07] I really appreciate it and I appreciate you.
[00:17:09] Of course, as always, feel free to hit me up on my socials are going to be linked below
[00:17:13] and let me know what you thought about this episode.
[00:17:16] And just think about the whole topic in general of tall, skinny, tall, thin influencers.
[00:17:22] If you're a tall, curvy girl, also feel free to share your experiences.
[00:17:25] I would love to hear it in the comments, in my DMs, whatever it may be.
[00:17:29] And until then, I'll catch you in the next one.
[00:17:32] Good night and goodbye.
