Oof we are starting off strong here lol.
But it’s kind of true.
Clothing brands often lie or are misleading about the quality of their clothing, the color, the fit, you name it. Like you know when you order “tall pants,” but they end up coming in and fitting like capris? Or you see a dress fit nicely on a model who’s like 5’10,” but when you receive it, it fits like a shirt?
Well, if you’re a tall girly listening to this, I know the answer is yes.
Anyways, what if I told you that brands do this ON PURPOSE? Yes, it turns out that brands aren’t oblivious to what they’re doing with “tall friendly” clothing. A marketing tactic reveals that brands are knowingly deceiving tall women. So today, we’re gonna discuss that in this episode and how tall women can sniff out these lies. Tune in for more!

Many clothing brands love to lie. If we are starting off with the bang, y'all, but I mean it's kind of true. Clothing brands often lie or are misleading about the quality of their products, the color, the fit, you name it. And when it comes to the tall girlies, brands lie about the length of their clothing items, whether it's pants, shirts, dresses, skirts, or shorts. Like, you know, when you order quote unquote tall pants, but when you receive your order they end up fitting like Caprice. Or you see a dress fitting nicely on a model who's like five to ten, but when you get your order and try the dress on, it's actually made for someone who's like five six, five seven. Well, if you're a tall girly watching this, I know the answer is yes. Well what if I told you if brands did this on purpose? Yeah. It turns out that brands are not oblivious to what they're doing with quote unquote tall girlfriendly clothing. A marketing tactic actually reveals that brands are knowingly deceiving tall women. We're gonna discuss this in today's episode and how tall women can sniff out these lies. So without further ado, let's get into it. Good morning, everybody. Everything is going to be linked in the description. I hope everyone had a happy, happy Thanksgiving last week. I am going to start off this episode with a question. Don't you just love it when a brand claims it a pair of pants's tall friendly, but it ends up having a thirty two inch and seemen fitting like high waters. No, yeah, me neither. But this is a struggle that many tall women face when it comes to shopping, especially online shopping. Let's hear a little bit about this model. Agencies only hire people above like five nine or like they really want tall, tall people for the runways to show off their clothes, so why the. Why? Okay, with this logic being said, they only like tall people modeling their clothes, So why is it whenever I buy clothes, sorry for cursing, it goes down to maybe midway past my calf. I'm five nine. Even when I get like the tall option, it's not tall. Thank god for Abercrombie, right, thank god for Abercrombie having extra tall options, or else I would be absolutely because why is it When I'm sitting in class with jeans on, you can see my whole path the joke this is a tall size, this is I'm not even gonna turn around because we're keeping a PG on this page. But this is not tall. This is. Where's where's the tall that actually means tall? Honestly, it just happens way too often, and it's absolutely crusty, and you're probably like, why does it happened? Why is it portrayed one way on the site but is completely different when you receive the product. The answer is simple, they're knowingly scamming us. Tall women are being scammed left and right by clothing brands because of something called tall washing, and if you don't know what tall washing is, let me explain it to you. According to Fashion magazine dot com, tall washing is a marketing tactic used by brands that include size diverse models in campaigns or runways without actually selling those same sizes, so basically featuring tall models and ads or whatever, giving a misleading impression like, hey, these products are made for tall women, but when you actually receive the product, it's not tall friendly at all. The article actually gave an example of Gigi Hidid and Kendall Jenner, who are both five ten and maybe they wear a pair of pants that fit perfectly, but when you get it, maybe you're the same height as them, maybe you're taller or whatever, but either way, it's nowhere near as long as you thought. Here's another example from a tall girly. So I've been seeing all of the posts about the new celebrity line that just strapped, and I figured that I'd go supported because I need the clothes that they're selling, like they fit my needs, they fit my esthetic. Let me go to the website and see what they're talking about. The face of their new line is a taller woman, So in my mind, I'm thinking of course they're going to offer tall options. I go to the website they do, which I really appreciate, and you know me, I'm not going to buy it unless I see the en seam links. So I click on the link to look at the en seame length. How dare they offer a tall option for girls five seven, five seven and above when the face of your campaign is five to ten? I'm so confused? Should I purchase? Should I support it's giving return? Basically, tall one washing is a form of diversity washing and diversity washing. According to Purplegolagency, dot com is an umbrella term that encapsulates the act of companies superficially engaging with diversity, equity and inclusion DEI initiatives, so basically pretending to be inclusive when they aren't for real. So basically, in a nutshell, tall washing is when brands pretend to offer clothing. Brands pretend to offer clothing for tall women. So maybe some of the models that are featured on the site that are modeling the clothing that they offer, maybe those models are tall, like five nine, five ten, maybe five eleven, Or maybe you see your favorite celebrity who happens to be tall wearing that particular brand, and it looks like it fits them perfectly. However, when you buy that product and you try it on yourself as a tall woman, it's it's not it's it's meant for the it's meant for the short girlies. It's almost like the pieces are made for someone who's between five seven and five nine. Also, is five seven even tall for a woman, in my personal opinion, is getting there? But not? I don't know. I think it also depends on where you live. Let me know your thoughts, though, So why do brands do this? Why do clothing brands tall wash? Well? Of course, a big, big reason that we always have to go back to is money, money and profits. Companies want and need profit, so they always always, always, well not always not all companies obviously, but a lot of companies, especially the fast fashion brands, are looking for ways to do things quickly but also cheaply, and they're always trying to figure out how they can spend the least amount of money possible. So let's say they're trying to be inclusive and trying to make tall clothing. Yes, on the clothing site, it might fit perfectly on the tall model, but when you get it. It's almost like they only added like what an extra inch or two at the end and called it tall, And you know, adding that one or two inches, adding those one or two inches at the end of the pants, it's honestly cheaper than making true tall clothing. Because when it comes to true tall clothing, yes it's about length, but it's also a lot about proportions. Think about it this way. Have you ever gotten a pair of quote unquote tall jeans and it's giving you a wedgie? Or especially this happens to me a lot when you get a long sleeve that's claimed to be tall, but there's like these weird armpit gaps, or when you get like ripped jeans that are supposed to be tall friendly and the ribs are supposed to be at the knees, or it's advertised that the ribs are supposed to be at the knees, but for you a tall girly, the ribs are at the thighs. Tall bodies aren't just longer, they are also proportioned differently. You have to. Consider longer torsos, longer arms, longer legs, maybe different hip placements, knee placements, elbow placements, but many brands often skip this because it requires a lot of money and time to truly understand and truly make the clothing for tall women. For them, it's easier, faster, and cheaper to just add length to the bottom and call it tall. Additionally, they also do tall washing, just as many companies do diversity washing. They do that to make it seem like they're inclusive, to make it look like they're these good, great, amazing companies. To make themselves look good. They have people be like, oh my gosh, like they're so like size inclusive, like they're so progressive, like they have tall sizes, like this is amazing. They get people to purchase the product, they receive the product, and then they're like, what the heck is this? This is not this is not long enough for me, this is not tall friendly, this fits terribly. But then honestly, that ends up making the situation worse because it's like people have a good impression of you when they first buy the product because you're like, oh my gosh, they're inclusive, they're inclusive for tall women. Then they buy the product and then they're like what the heck is this? Like this is not okay, and then they end up returning it and maybe even writing bad reviews and so forth. So honestly, that makes things worse at the end, because it's one thing to not offer tall friendly clothing, but then it's another to say that you do, but you actually don't like at least be upfront about the fact that it's not tall friendly, like why lie about it? And then that just ruins your reputation in so many people's eyes. I think we need to start calling out the brands that are doing tall women dirty. If you're a tall girly and you've ever been lied to, deceived, scammed by a clothing brand that said that their clothing items are tall girl friendly, but they really aren't, call them out in the comments. We need to let the other tall girlies know. And then, lastly, another reason I'm sure we've heard several times a reason for tall washing is also it's also because there's not that many tall women. I'm just gonna put that out there. The taller we are, the less of us there are. Does that even make sense? So basically, there are more women who are short tall like five nine, five ten than there are women who are tall tall like six four six five. That's basically what I'm trying to say. And so if we're going back to the point of money and profit, they're more so going to cater to the quote unquote masses. So they're gonna cater to the masses in the tall community as well, so they're more likely to have options tall options. These bigger brands are more likely to have tall options for the short tall girlies because there are more short tall girlies out there than tall tall girlies. Number one reason, or big reason, or is part of a lot of reasons, is the money situation. So here's how the tall girlies can avoid being scammed by the brands that are selling fake tall clothing. If you don't see the enseeme in the description, don't buy it. If you don't see the model's height and other measurements in the description, don't trust it. If you see reviews from other tall women saying that the product is shorter than it actually looks, just click off. Let's hear from other tall women. Three things I would never do. I was shopping a lot as a tag around. I'm not purchasing any dresses or any skirts where the total length of the unit is not listed. I'm five ten, My punami will be out. I'm not buying how long is the dress? That's all. That's all I need to know. I'm not purchasing your pants if the end seam lengths are not listed in the product details page. Period. I am sick of seeing a product description page. These pants would be perfect worn out on a warm night. No, I do not care how long are the pants. And this is the one that really gets me. These pants are made for girls five to seven. And what do you wanna understand? That someone's total height is comprised of different proportions. So you're telling me that these pants can fit a girl that's five to seven and a girl that's six y five. What it's giving si start of the travel pants. So it's a no for me, thank you. So, when you're shopping online for a pair of pants, let's say I'll put a little screenshot here. Click on the size guide sometimes it's under product information, product details, one of those keywords, and figure out what the end seam is. Yes, you can just go off of tall, extra tall, et cetera. If you actually want to know the exact measurement, find the size guide and see how long it is. So then if you're unsure of what your in scene even is, get a tape measure and just measure from your crotch to your ankle, and and you'll figure it out. You're just gonna do a little bit of homework, unfortunately, But if you really want something to be the correct length and to fit well, then I think it's worth it in the long run to just kind of do some research on the product site and really just dig and find the exact length of the end seams, so hopefully you will get a win right. Off the bat. I honestly feel like stuff like this makes us really good researchers because the literal lengths that we have to go through to find out if the product, especially an online product, is tall friendly. I mean when I do online shopping and I'm trying to figure out what this product is like, like if the product is tall friendly, I literally I try to find out like the model's information. Like there's literally sites that have some of these models that are modeling on these like clothing brand sites. I try to go through those to see what their measurements are and stuff. I try to see if they include it in the description, if they include the model's heighten the description. I need to see videos of them walking around and posing in it to see how it fits, how it hangs on them. I'm trying to look up reviews on TikTok and Google and YouTube, but especially TikTok to see what the tall girlies are saying about the product. I feel like when people go online shopping and they find like a product that they like and they're like, okay, like I want to get this, they just purchase it. It takes me like four business days to purchase the product because I have to do in depth research to make sure that it's actually long enough, and then on top of that, I have to find backups just in case it happens way too often. It's so annoying. But honestly, the truth is with this whole tall washing thing, it just you can never truly rely on the photos and the information that the actual site gives you, because yes, okay, maybe like the model's measurements are like correct and so forth. But some of these brands, some of these clothing brands, when they photo shoot the models, these pieces are custom made, custom fit to them, and that's why it looks great on them, but terrible on you, because you know, everybody's body is different, everybody is proportioned differently, and everybody has different Listen, there are three reasons why people can be tall, long legs, long torso, or long neck or honestly could be all three or two of the three. You can never, honestly, truly one hundred percent rely on what the actual site provides for you. And that's why I have to like, that's why many of us have to go to outside sources. But we're trying our best. If you truly want tall, shop small tall businesses, because they're doing it properly, they're doing it correctly, and always always check the reviews. Anyways, I hope y'all stay safe out there this holiday party season when you're buying your clothes and so forth, especially online shopping. I'm gonna end that episode here.
