By the way, this may or may not actually be a true story.
You’re a tall girly in the grocery store, shopping because we all have to eat. A lady approaches you and asks you to reach a can of whatever off a high shelf. Well, a high shelf for her because she’s pretty short. Now, of course, it’s your literal duty as a tall citizen to reach things from high areas for people, so you do it.
You hand the can of whatever, and she says thank you. You go back to browsing. But she keeps talking…and that’s where it all goes downhill. She goes, “You know, you’re pretty large for such a pretty girl.” Oh????? Anyways, you laugh it off. She continues, saying, “I’ve been eyeing you from afar because I didn’t know how big you were, but as I got closer, you’re bigger than I expected.” Oh, so we’re stalking people now??
Now you’re weirded out, and so you just say “oh…awesome”, and try to walk away. AND THEN she says, “You know, my son likes really tall girls. You’d be the perfect height for him”. And that’s when you speed away because who says something like that if they’re not gonna kidnap you. I’ve watched too many horror movies and Dateline episodes to try to figure out what happens next.
Anyways, this story isn’t the first time that a tall girl (who happened to be me lol) would receive weird comments or have a conversation solely based on her height. And in today’s episode, we’re getting to the bottom of why some people are so fixated or even obsessed with a tall woman’s height. Tune in to the full episode for more!

We're gonna set the scene for the tall girls. By the way, this Maher may not be based on a true story. You're a tall girly in the grocery store, shopping because we all have to eat. A lady approaches you and asks you to reach a can of whatever off of a high shelf, well a high shelf for her, because she's pretty short. Now, of course, it's your literal duty as a tall citizen to reach things in high areas for people. So you do it. You hand the can of whatever to her, and she says thank you, and you go back to browsing. But she keeps talking, and that's where it goes downhill. She goes, you know, you're large for such a pretty girl. Oh whatever. You laugh it off like ha ha. But she continues and she says, I've been eyeing you from afar because I didn't know how big you were, but as I got closer, you're bigger than I expected. Oh so now we're stalking people, and now of course you're weeded out. So you're like, oh awesome, and turn to walk away. But then she says, my son likes really tall girls. You'd be the perfect height for him, and that is when heeds to beat away, because who says something like that if they're not going to kidnap you. Maybe I've watched too many horror movies or dateline shows, but there's no way I'm going to just stand there and figure out what happens next. Anyways, this isn't the first time that a tall girl, and in this story, the tall girl happens to be me, would receive weird comments or have a weird conversation with a random person about their height. And so in today's episode, we're going to dive deeper into why some people are so fixated or even obsessed with a tall women's height. So let's get into it. Good morning, everybody. You are currently listening to a Tall Girl's podcast hosted by a tall girl named India. I help everyone who is tuning in today is doing super fantastic. Everything is going to be linked in the description. I hope you all are doing fantastic. I apologize if that story that I gave in the intro was a little bit triggering, because something like this is a relatively universal tall girl experience. And if you don't believe me, let's hear some stories from other tall girls. The fascination of tall girls needs to be studied and talked about, because I'm sick of it as a grown man. Why are you sizing yourself up with me in a store? And then I'll tell you my height and you get mad and try and tell me I'm lying. Now you ask me about basketball, you tell me about your high school highlights, and you forty years old asking about my shoe size is diabolic. When you don't got a shoe sponsored form, not a discount, no nothing, why do you need to know? Then it'd be like grown men want my whole life story about where I played basketball? This and the third for what who are you? One time I was outside getting dreams and a man comes runs up and pretends to dunk on me. I don't even know you, sir. I should call it the cops, like what are you doing. In today's episode of being tall in public, I'm at the grocery store. I was just back there by the butter and this kid walks up to me. I say, kid, but he was probably like twenty, but he walks up to me and goes, oh my god, you are so tall. Normal, normal occurrence happens on my day. So I'm like, yep, I am so tall, and then he just looks at me and he goes, I kind of want to know if I'd be able to lift you up, Like I've been alive a long time. I've been six to three since I was twelve, and I can stay with confidence that never never heard that one before. I was uncomfortable. I didn't know what to say, so I just polite giggle and I was like, yeah, not gonna let you do that. He just kind of looked at me disappointed and walked away. So, yeah, you know, just another day being a giant in public. I am so over people just saying because I'm tall and thinking that it's okay for them to just say stuff like I was just at the grocery store to get bananas all I got. I'm walking through the aisles and some man passes by me with his cart and I don't stop because I'm obviously trying to find my bananas, and he just goes six to two and I'm and this happens to me a lot, and I don't know why people think I'm six to two. First of all, I'm six four and I could step on your balding head, thank you very much. And I just I don't get it. It's like there's no question mark. He didn't stop me, Like it's just like a statement, but he says it loud enough so I can hear it. And it's like why, I will never understand why people do this. I am a human being. I am just like you. I'm just have longer legs and clearly that bothers you. And it's it's not. Funny, like I'm not like haha, I'm not, I'm not. It doesn't make me laugh. I don't find it funny. I find it very odd and weird. And I do not understand the point or like what they're trying, what point they're trying to drive anyway that is like my rant I just I get it all the time. Literally, what is the reason? Just like let a tall girl live. We exist and we are here and we are here to stay and like leave us alone, just trying to get my bendy as. The literal things random people will say to tall women are beyond me. Oh my gosh, you're so large. If we play one on one, who's winning? You know you are kind of built like a dude. Mind you, These are literal strangers. Anyways, let's go through some of the comments under the previous videos and see what some maybe y'all are saying. One person said they'd be like, you gotta be a volleyball or a basketball player. I'd be like, no, I played the piccolo in the marching band. No, because why did I feel that? Sometimes when people like see me in public or whatever, they assume that I am an undergrad. So I guess every once in a while, someone will just come up to me and be like, oh, are you D one or D two basically assuming that you know I play college sports and maybe I'm D one or D two Division one divisit whatever? And usually I'm like what, But it takes me a second to realize that they're talking about college sports, and so I'm like, no, like I play music. I play the bass clarinet. And they're like, so, you never played basketball. I mean I did, okay, I did for like a good portion of my life and that and did interestingly. But I usually prefer to tell people just know I never played any sports, because is if I say yeah, I did, They'll be like, oh my god, why did you stop? Like you were men? For bat? Shut up, just stop talking. Another girl. He said, dude dunked on me in the grocery store. I looked at him with disgust, and he apologized, first of all, in the grocery store. Where did you think you were going with that? And how? And why? I need a story time on this because I just I don't understand. It's weird because I've heard a story or two from tall women talking about how people have physically tried to dunk on them and know they were not playing basketball or anything. I just thought that these were rare occurrences. But I've heard more stories from more tall women about people trying to dunk on them. Is this a for real, for real thing? Like, I don't understand what prompts people to do that. Another person said, I'm so happy we're finally saying this. I've been tall my entire life, and I'm tired. And there are so many comments that are similar to this one talking and they're coming from tall women and they're talking about how you know, these types of occurrences with the height questions and the conversations were conversations or I guess even people physically trying to dunk on them. Things like that happened to them on a daily basis, and it's exhausting. I think I saw as a comment in like another video that there was one six foot girly who said that there were five separate occurrences on the same day in the walmart of people going up to her to talk about her height. Is a bit outrageous, y'all. And it's almost like, why are some people so obsessed with a tall women's height? Now, not even that, why are some people so obsessed with needing to comment the most ridiculous things about a tall woman's height to her face, like we don't have anything better to do? Personally, I feel like because height is right there, it's visible, it catches the eye right away and it's something that people notice first, so yes, they're gonna break their necks to stare. It may also be a shock factor because some people may not be used to seeing a woman be tall, or a woman be that tall. If she's like let's say six four and up, like, people don't know how to act. And I'm gonna tell you all a story. It's not related to being tall, but it will give you, like a little bit of a clearer picture. So if you followed my Study Abroad series, when was this? This was like two or three years ago. Oh my gosh, it's been that long since Study Abroad. I still haven't even printed out the pictures. Anyways, that's besides the point. When I was studying abroad, I went to Switzerland for a weekend to visit my cousin. So she and her husband and I we all went out to eat at a restaurant. And I will say that, Okay, I am black, and there's not that many people of color where she lives, where my cousin lives, so she and I are pretty much the only black people in that area. But whatever it is, what it is, it is, what it is. Switzerland is a beautiful place. I would go back. So it's me, it's my cousin and her husband. We're at a restaurant. We're eating, well we or we didn't eat it, we ordered, and we're just vibing or whatever. And I was wearing my hair out naturally, and you know, out of nowhere, I just feel like somebody's hand in my hair, like touching it, and I'm like, hello, So I wet my head around, ready to swat whatever it is away because why are you touching my hair? And so it was like a random lady, and I guess she was like trying to apologize in her home language or whatever, and so my cousin was like trying to explain, like no, no, no, like this is the owner and like a friend of mine. You know, she's just not used to seeing hair like yours. And I'm like, just because she's not used to seeing hair like mine doesn't give her permission to just come up to me and touch it. Like girl, like you don't know what I have, Like I got have lights for okay, I don't have lice. I'm gonna put that out there. I don't have lights, but you know what I mean, Like you don't know how the person is gonna react. You don't know what the person has, you don't know what the person's gonna do. Why would you just do that without their permission and you don't know them like a stranger. Something like that is similar to the case of tall women. You know, when they see something they don't know, they feel they need to say something really stupid, and you know, you would think that growing up you would learn think before you act, think before you speak. A lot of people, I don't think we're raised on that notion, like at all. They just do things without thinking about what the other person would do or say, or how they would like act or whatever, or even just thinking about the other person's feelings. They just do it and don't care. So that's my reasoning. Maybe they just, like you know, they're in shock. They're not used to seeing something like that. I mean in terms of a woman being tall. Maybe it's just like their first reaction height is like visible. So I don't know. Maybe they have a lot of thoughts on it and they just don't think before they speak or act. That could honestly be a reason why some people are just like you know, they act the way they act or through the things that they do. But then I stumbled across a video talking about why it's like socially acceptable to talk about or comment about someone's height versus their weight. I'm gonna play that clip here. If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me how tall I was, I would literally be set for life. And can we talk about how it's socially acceptable to ask and make comments about a person's height, but when it comes to weight, it's something completely different. I try really hard not to assume like ill intent when people make comments or genuinely ask, because sometimes people are just genuinely curious. But no one would ever scream at a person across a restaurant asking how much they weigh, So why is it different with height? But as a young girl growing up just in this world and in this society, having older men just constantly commenting on your body and on a trait that you have absolutely no control over has been a little bit difficult. But I've always just found it very interesting on the societal acceptance of commenting on a person's height versus commenting on a person's weight, and why they're so drastically different, because at the end of the day, height is really like uncontrollable, like you have no control over your height at all, Yet it seems to be the most socially acceptable thing to comment on or ask about. Oh, stand back to back with me, Oh, I need to measure you. Oh I need to da da da da da. Like what, I think that it's kind of weird. I think that it's kind of uh not okay. And as much as I try to kind of just like shake it off and make like a game out of it, I just find it kind of interesting. Now. I know most of the time people are just genuinely curious and are like, oh my gosh, I have not seen a woman as tall as you in my entire life. How tall are you? But also like, babe, you can see how tall I am. I try not to make a big deal out of it. I honestly just find it kind of comical at this point, just because I've spent the last nightnineteen years of my life mentally preparing myself for any and every question that I could be asked. Now, yes, I will say that people are more likely to ask about height than weight because asking about weight is seen as rude or out of line, whereas height may be considered fair game, Maybe because the person is genuinely curious, Maybe because the person thinks that they're funny or think that whatever they're gonna say or do is flattering. But the thing is, you're not gonna go up to a person and like poke their stomach and ask like about weight or whatever and make like a joke about their weight. So why would you go up to a tall person or a tall woman and try to physically dunk on them? Like, I'm still stuck on that. I'm still stuck on that last part. It's almost like this sense of entitlement, like you're supposed to like respond to the comments, You're supposed to take the comments, you are supposed to answer the height questions, and so forth, because talking about height is so normalized. In fact, it's so normalized that I don't think that the person realizes that what they're saying or doing is quite literally dumb. One person commented under that socially acceptable HyG being socially accessible to talk about it. Then wait when person commented on that video saying it's not socially acceptable. People are rude and ignorant. Don't give them a hall pass. And I agree, some people just not everything is up there, you know what I mean? The Tall Girlies are exhausted, exhausted of the high questions, the inappropriate comments, the ridiculous jokes. What many people fail to realize is that this isn't like a once in a while thing. These things happen on a daily basis, sometimes even multiple times a day, and y'all wonder why we crash out. The Tall Girlies should normalize walking away from a person while they're asking a dumb hYP question, or even screaming when someone is doing or saying something weird or inappropriate. Let's start making people feel as uncomfortable as they make us feel. Anyways, what does all I have for you guys today? Thank you so much for tuning in. I really appreciate it, and I appreciate you of course. As always, feel free to hit me up on my socials at a Tall Girls podcast as you could probably tell my voices finally back and better slag, because you know, voice is really important on a podcast. So it's like if I sound crusty, REUSSI mussy, busty and dusty, like the quality isn't just gonna be there, you know what I mean? But I think I pulled through really well last week. Anyways, let me know what you thought about this episode. Let me know what you think about why people are so fixated on a tall woman's height. Why are some people obsessed I wouldn't even say obsessed with a tall woman's height. Why are you obsessed with saying stupid things to our face? Is it because like talking about height or commenting about height is socially acceptable. Is it because it's like the shock factor or they're just like genuinely curious about it, or just you know, people don't really think before they say or do things like I want to know your thoughts on that, and I want to hear about any weird experiences you have in public, especially with random strangers, because I just feel like, I guess because they know that they'll probably never see you again, They're just like, Yeah, let me just go all out, have no filter, no shame in anything I'm about to. Say or do. I don't know, it's so weird, So yeah, definitely let me know. Hit me up with my socials at a Tall Girls podcast and until then, I will catch you all in the next one.
