Thank you guys so much for buying me ten coffees and supporting the podcast. Of course, if you ever want to support the podcast. Number one, I really appreciate that. The fact that you even want to do that is absolutely insane to me, but I just want to say I genuinely do appreciate that. And number two, if you want to support the podcast, the link to buy me a coffee is going to be in the description. Now back to this episode, okay. Before also again, before I get into this episode, I do want to say I am not any type of health, fitness anything of that sort professional. Okay. I am going to school for business. I'm getting my master's in marketing and brand management. That has nothing to do with health and fitness and wellness. Okay, So I guess I will say take this information with the grain of all. It's just like, there are so many different factors to consider when talking about health and fitness, especially when it comes to your individual unique body, your individual makeup, and so forth. So always always always talk to your doctor, always, always, always discussed with a professional before trying any of these. I'm just providing general information I've found in my research. The short girlies are lying to the tuggerlies again. Okay, I'm being a bit dramatic, but hear me out. Just like we may be reluctant to take fashion and tall girl friendly clothing recommendations from shorter women, we should also be cautious about taking fitness, health and diet recommendations from them. Let's talk about it. There are two main categories that I kind of want to touch on today, one of them being diet and the next one being fitness and exercise, And then maybe even we can talk at the end a little bit about how the two are related, because you know, the relationship between the two, the relationship and between diet and fitness and exercise and so forth are very important in our physical and mental and emotional health. So starting with diet, tell me if you've ever been guilty of this. TikTok is a great resource. Okay. You probably search up a lot of things on there, and one of the things that I feel like many people definitely search up are those like what I eat in a day videos and listen I've been guilty of doing that myself, because I personally like to see what other people are eating, more so for meal and spell, especially around like the holidays or the winter time, when I'm trying to, like specifically right now, I'm trying to look up like souper recipes and stuff on TikTok, So listen, I'm guilty of doing that as well. These videos definitely vary based on the type of lifestyle they have, what goals they have in terms of their health, what diseases they may have, whether or not they work in an office in corporate or or whether they work remotely. It also varies by how much they can afford, et cetera. Like the videos, they they vary. Okay, some of the most popular videos. What I'm noticing is that some of the girlies don't eat much, you know, like I'll see like this little like yogurt granola bowl like in the morning, which looks tasty. Then maybe they'll have like part of a sandwich for lunch, and then they'll eat girl dinner, you know. Girl dinner is like bola pasta or like maybe some crackers or something I don't know, and then that will be like yeah, that's what I ate in a day, and it's kind of like, Okay, I'm not gonna lie to you. What some of these girlies eat in one day is like one meal for me. And listen, As I said before, this is not everyone. This is not all of the videos that are out there, but some of the most popular ones do showcase people who I personally is just my opinion. It could be true, it could be not. I don't know what else they're eating off camera, but what they're showing on camera. I don't think that's enough, honestly, But like I said, that's my personal opinion. Don't come for me. And I think because these videos are so popular, it can be easy for someone to think that it's normal. And just because it's considered quote unquote normal, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's good, especially good for you in particular. And then, in addition to these what I Eat in a Day videos, oftentimes, as tall women, when we go out with our shorter friends, we sometimes see them eating much less than we eat, or at least I notice that oftentimes, like my portion sizes or how much I order, how much I eat is definitely a lot more than some of my shorter friends, and you know, oftentimes we may compare how much we're eating to how much they're eating, and then that can lead to guilt over how much we're consuming how much we're eating. And then on top of this, there are many people who judge tall women for how much they eat. Like with me, the amount of time someone has said to me, dang, are you really going to eat all of that? Yes, and I'm gonna eat more right after this. Your girl's hungry. But I don't think people realize how damaging and frustrating comments like this can be for tall women. Let's listen to this clip really quickly. So I notice a lot of times, like me personally, when I go to eat or whatever, I naturally eat more food and people judge me so hard. But I'm literally like five eight. I'm literally five eight, and I know that's like not that tall, but in real life it actually is. And especially like even men, I notice like they just judge me for how much I eat. Or I'll go to the doctor and they're like, why do you weigh that much? I'm tall. I go to the gym and I just I'll never understand why people judge so hard. Listen the tall girlies eat a lot, and the tall girlies should eat a lot. Get your calories and girl periods. Listen. I just hope that the tall girlies are very careful with the information that they find on the internet and take care of themselves, because things like this can lead to eating disorders. And I've heard a lot of stories from other tall women who have had eating disorders because they've struggled with the fact that they felt like, as women were supposed to be smaller, we have to be petite, and because they're already so large quote unquote large because of their height, they feel like maybe eating less would make them smaller. And listen, I am no professional here, but what some of the social media girlies out here are eating, how much they're eating, I think we should definitely take that with a grain of salt. Okay, because the taller you are, the larger I guess you could say, the larger you are, the more calories you are supposed to take in. The taller you are, the more you're supposed to eat. The more you weigh, the more you're supposed to eat, the more calories you're supposed to take it to be able to maintain your weight, and you know, just actually live life to be able to function. As I've said, of course, always always speak with the professional. But listen, the taller you are, more calories you burn than maybe a shorter person with a similar body type as you on a day to day basis, meaning that compared to that person, that shorter person, you have to consume more calories and they're consuming in order to replace the calories that you personally burned. I hope that made sense. The point here is tall women are supposed to eat more. Now, just because we're supposed to eat more calories, that doesn't mean we could go insane. Okay, I know the tall girlies have heard this thing where we can eat whatever we want because we won't gain weight or the weight won't show us quickly. Now I'm not a health professional, but let's rethink this for a sec Our organs, our energy levels, our hormones still need the proper nourishment, you know, so let's not go too too crazy. And I'm saying like, let's not eat donuts for breakfast and lunch and eat pizza for dinner every single day. Balance with everything, of course, Like it's good to have a balance lifestyle both good and bad, but we should be eating mostly good and that's the standard for everyone. Like we should have learned this in our fifth grade health classes. Do they even have fifth grade health classes? The point here is balance is key, But that doesn't mean that we should be eating pizza and donuts and all that like McDonald's and Wendy's every single day, all the time, you know what I mean. But all in all, listen to your doctor, listen to any other health professional you're talking to, like a nutritionist or dietitian or whatever other specialist health specialist is out there that have the proper credentials, and most importantly, listen to your body. If your body is to sleep, go to sleep. If your body is saying to eat, eat, and if your body is saying to stop eating, then stop eating. You know what I mean. I'm sure we've all heard the saying that your body is your temple, and it's so so important that if we want to live a long and healthy life or we're functioning at a hopefully mostly optimal level, we should be taking care of our body and listening to what it needs. And so yeah, that's that, but before moving on, let us listen to this clip. Three tall girl reminders need to hear today. Not a monster for eating more than your shorter family members. Tall girls need more food and if your body is telling you it's hungry, that is a signal you need to listen to not feel ashamed of. Tall girls need at least fifteen hundred calories just by existing, which means you do not have to earn or burn your food today, like your almond aunt says. Lastly, when you take photos and feel like the biggest tallest one, ask yourself what you want to remember about this day? Is it how you looked or how you chose to move past how you look and lived in the moment, and when you focus on what truly matters to you, you can finally feel that peace with food in your body. Now. Fitness and exercise as a tall woman, y'all, The tell girlies are mad. The tall girlies are mad because they're finding out that their favorite fitness influencer, who they've modeled their workouts after, who they modeled their diets and meals after. The tall girlies are finding out that that fitness influencer is actually a whole foot shorter than them. Let's talk about this, but First, let's listen to a couple videos of the tall girlies expressing their frustrations about this. Let me just complain about being five foot nine as a gym girl, because it is hard out here because I'm not a cute little five foot two I can wear or I can eat one hundred and fifteen grams of protein and still be short in cute and thinks I'm naturally thin already, so my muscles already look great. Like respect, but I respect if you're over five foot eight. I respect you way more if you're a gen girl, way more because I know how hard is to hit your protein. You know, it's almost worse than finding out that your favorite gym crater has a BBL finding out that your favorite gym crater is five foot two. I am five but eight and a half. And don't get me wrong, I love being tall. I love my height, all the love for my tall gym girls, but we do need to address the fact that it is so much more difficult to look muscular and to fill out your physique when you are taller. Last night, I was thinking about how jacked I would be with my work ethic if I was five to two instead of five to nine. I know my tall girlies can happen, but building muscle as a tall person takes so much longer than it does for a shorter person. And I know, I know I'm gonna get some hay. I know, I'm like some shorter people are gonna say, well, I work justice hard. I know you do. I know you work just as hard. But the thing with long limbed people and Daddy long legs, which just myself, is that our limbs are so much longer, so our muscle fibers are longer, so we have to take so much more time in order to fill those muscle fibers up. And I just like, I wonder if I was five two, I would be like the Hulk I would be yoked out of my mind if I was five two. Now, when you have specific health and fitness goals, and for many it's often losing weight or gaining muscle. Well, for many women, I can't really speak for men right now, but that's the case for many women. We often turn to a lot of the fitness creators on social media. Why is this the case? Because it's accessible, it's accessible, it's free, and especially if you've followed like the journey of that particular fitness creator or that particular whatever gym creator or whatever. If you've followed their journey for a very long time, there's ultimately maybe like a sense of relatability, but also a sense of trust. And it's like, if they have the body type that you want that you're looking to get, and you've developed this I guess online relationship with them, you're gonna have that trust in them, and you're gonna want to do naturally, You're gonna want to do what they're doing. You're gonna want to do what they're recommending in hopes that you can get the body type that they have. I'm sure a lot of the Toll girlies have tried the workouts, the diets, the supplements, et cetera, and maybe they just haven't been seeing the results that they want. And the reason behind this, Okay, there are a lot of factors that go into this. Height is definitely one of them, because, let's face it, of course, it always depends on angles and stuff like that. But when you're looking at somebody through a phone screen or a computer screen or whatever, even like a TV screen, it's hard to tell how tall they are. And a lot of these fitness influencers, a lot of these gym influencers, creators, whatever you want to call them. A lot of them are on the shorter side. A lot of them are five two, five three, five four or five five, five, six, five seven. Listen, there's nothing wrong with sharing what's worked for them. It's there's nothing wrong with them even being that height in the first place. I just think that the main problem is a some of them don't list out like every single video, especially with TikTok, because it's always feeding new videos to people, and so you're not you may not know the person when you first see them on like your feed. But the main problem here will kind of two is the first one being some of these creators need to start talking about their measurements right off the bat, somewhere early in the video, end of video caption wherever that you need to start. Let people need to start listing their measurements, their height and their weight and so forth. And then second they also need to start putting disclaimers like, hey, just because it's worked for me, that doesn't necessarily mean it work for you. Different bodies require different needs, It requires different diets, different types of diets, You're going to require different amounts of protein, different amounts of fiber, different amounts of carbs. You're going to require different types of exercises, different differences in the weights that you use, like how heavy you lift or even if you lift at all. Like everything is just going to be so so different and so so unique to you. And then on top of that, the truth is it's harder for tall women to build muscle because, according to research, muscle growth is slower to become more apparent because it's distributed over a longer frame. And additionally, while it's harder for tall women to gain muscle in comparison to shorter women, it's also easier for tall women to lose weight in comparison to shorter women. And listen, obviously it's all dependent on environmental factors and your lifestyle, age and so forth and so on. Essentially, I'm just trying to say here that what you see on social media, what you see like the fitness, not even just them, even something as simple as what I eat in a day videos, when you're watching these videos, when you watch these people on social media, you really do have to take this with a grain of salt, because there are so many other factors to consider lifestyle. Some people are more active than others' health conditions that person may be struggling with, Let's say, like I don't know, like gut issues or an autoimmune disease where they have to eat a certain way whereas you don't have to. Or even if we're talking about weight loss, this person is saying, oh, I'm only eating this much so I can lose weight. But if you're taller than her, if you're taller than that girly and you have a similar body type as her, you still need to eat more than her. Even though you're trying to be in some type of calorie deficit to lose weight, you still need to eat more than her. Like, That's essentially what I'm trying to get across here. And I know I said earlier that the short girly are lying to us, And Okay, was I being dramatic with that? Yes, it's not like they're lying to us on purpose. It's not even that a thing of like them being like, oh, I'm doing this to lie to people. Okay, some people actually do lie on social media. Let's clock that for a second. But the people who are being truthful it's not likely they're sitting here like, oh, I'm putting this video out to lie to people, da da da. They're simply sharing what's working for them, and so I think a better way to phrase it is this can it can be a little bit misleading if they're not using the proper languaging, Like some people will say, this is what works for me. Make sure you speak with your doctor, whereas oh, there's just like if you want to lose weight, if you want to do this, steal my diet hacks, steal my supplement hack or whatever whatever. It can be very misleading when they're talking in these videos. That's why I like to say that it's always best, honestly to yes, follow people who you want to look like. I guess you can say in terms of like body type or shape or whatever, but also follow people who look like you. If you're five to ten, listen to what the five ten, five eleven, maybe six feet gurlies are doing. If you're weighing, if you weigh two hundred twenty pounds and you want to stay that way, or if you want to gain more weight or maybe lose it a little bit of weight, listen to the other girlies who are also around two hundred and twenty pounds and looking to have the same goals as you are, those recommendations could potentially as I listen, still go to your doctor, talk to your doctor, but those recommendations could potentially be more useful for you. And then on top of that, especially when you're tall, because did you know that the tall girlies when it comes to like working out and like weights and machines and stuff, did you know that we're more prone to injury? And then also on top of that, we don't always need the weights, we don't always need to be lifting. According to an article, we're more prone to joint stress, so we should also embrace lower impact workouts like cycling, swimming, plates, et se. I'm gonna link it below. Honestly, I think I'm gonna link a lot of things below because I did an episode with Denver. She is a nutritionist I believed, or dietitian. I'm so sorry if she's listening right now and I screwed it up, but she has the credentials. She went and got an education for this. I did an episode with her talking about tall girl diet and nutrition and so forth. So I'll link that below, and I also did an episode with Debbie. She is a tall pilates instructor. Homegirl has her own business period where we spoke a lot about exercise, pilates and even maintaining proper form stuff like that for tall women, specifically because she is a tall girlly herself, and also some of the struggles that we face in terms of you know, exercise and so forth. So I highly recommend listening to those episodes after finishing this one. We're almost done here though, So the main lessons here are one, talk to your doctor and a health professional. I'm going to keep saying that I always talk to a professional. And if the particular video that you're watching, if it relates to even just how like in relation to clothes, you don't want to listen to it as a tall girly. If they don't say their measurements, if they don't say their height, if they don't say their end SeeMe, their torso length, and so forth. If you don't want to listen to a clothing recommendation video if they don't have those measurements. The same applies here if they don't put their height, if they don't put their weight, if they don't put their specific goals and the amount of calories that they're taking in and so forth. If they do not put that in the video, do not listen to it. Do not listen to them. Please take it with a grain of salt. You can use it as inspo, you can use it as motivation. But please just try to take that with a grain of salt and listen to your body. Your body will tell you what it needs. Trust me. It's so easy to fall into the trap of, oh, I want to be smaller, or oh I want to look like the five to two pilates going girl and like that, and so I need to eat less or do less, or it's so easy to fall into the top of I'm not muscular enough, I'm not big enough. I need to be doing more and pushing myself more, and so forth and so on. Listen, our bodies do so much to keep us alive. So please, please, please make sure that you're taking care of it, especially when you're working out. The more you work out, the more active you are, the more you should be eating, and the more certain types of food that, especially if you have certain goals and more certain types of foods, you should be eating, and that's a very important connection between fitness and exercise and diet. If you're a tall girl and you're said, if you're living a sedentary lifestyle, you should already be eating more than a short girly who has like the same a similar body type as you. But if you're a toll girly working out, you need to eat more and more more times two times three even depending. Also another main lesson please follow, tell people who look like you, tell women who look like you, and honestly, where are the tall fitness girlies? Where are the tall gym girlies? Where are the tall diet and nutrition girlies? Listen? I love that the five two five three girlies are sharing their tips, but the tall girlies deserve creators and influencers who get them. And that is all I have for you today. Thank you so much for tuning in. I really appreciate and I appreciate you of course, as always, feel free to hit me up on my socials at a Tall Girls podcast and let me know what you thought about this episode. As I said, this is not specific advice to anybody. It's just general information that I'm sharing with you guys, and I really care about you, guys, and I want you guys to be healthy and happy and strong, and whatever your fitness goals are, I want you to make sure that you're taking care of yourself, that you're eating enough, that you're eating what you're supposed to, that you're not going crazy on the pizza and the donuts and all the other stuff. But you're also making sure that you have that balance in your life. And you know, making sure that you also understand that some of the girls allot you. A lot of the girlies on social media are short. They're just not saying it. Their photos are deceiving you. Okay, Please do not forget that. While yes, there are so many amazing toe women out there, there are so many toemen out there, there's still a lot more short girlies out there in comparison to us. That's all I'm gonna say. So if they're not listing their measurements and their stats and stuff, then I would take that with a grain of salt. And that's just my personal opinion. I'm not here calling out anybody or saying anybody's doing anything wrong. I'm just saying that sometimes the information that you're seeing on social media can be misleading, so please be careful and of course if you have any other questions or comments, you can leave a comment wherever you're watching or listening to this episode, or you can send me a DM at a Tall Girls podcast. Socials are linked below, and until then, I will catch you guys in the next one. Good night and goodbye.
