Before, tall women didn’t have any women’s options, meaning they had to resort to clothing that wasn’t long enough or men’s clothing. However, over time, small tall-specific brands have been popping up, finally offering options that fit our long limbs.
Big retailers even joined in on this, providing long and tall options. Sounds great, right? To an extent…
We still have to deal with limited options and constantly sold-out tall pieces, whereas the regular and even petite sections have clothing options that we want and need, but in shorter sizes.
What if I told you that the same people who the regular and petite pieces are designed for are playing a part in tall women’s fashion frustrations? Yup!
This will all make more sense the further we get into the episode, so be sure to tune in!

The tall fashion industry has made a lot of progress over the past few years. Before tall women didn't have any women's options, meaning they had to resort to clothing that wasn't long enough or men's clothing. However, over time, small tall specific brands have been popping up, finally offering us options that fit our long limbs. Big retailers even joined in providing long or tall options. Sounds great, right, well to a certain extent. We still have to deal with limited options and constantly sold out tall pieces, whereas the regular and even petite sections seem to be stocked with clothes that we want and need, but they're in shorter sizes. Now, what if I told you that the same people who the regular and petite clothing options are designed for play a role in tall women's fashion frustrations. This is going to make more sense to further we get into this episode. So without further ado, let's get into it. Good morning, everybody. You are currently listened to a tall girls podcast hosted by a tall girl named India. I hope everyone who's tuning in today is doing super fantastic Before I get into this episode, I do when I say make sure you're following me on my socials at a Tall Girls podcast on Instagram, TikTok, and Pincher so that you could stay update on all of the latest podcast episodes and catch a glimpse of my everyday life. Also, feel free to leave your review and let me know how tall you are. I'm genuinely curious. I also have a monthly newsletter, make sure you subscribe to that. Everything is going to be linked in the description. I stumbled across a TikTok video where there's girly she was six feet sixty one sixty two. I don't remember off the top of my head right now, but she was basically talking about the struggles that she faces when it comes to shopping because of her height. Let's listen, okay, I. Just want to come on here and vent a little bit as a tall girly. I did a lot of Black Friday shopping, both in person and online, and I'm noticing this common trend, this theme that brands not only are they providing way less options colors for tall clothing items, but it's always sold out. And I know. A big reason why this is happening is because shorter people like five eight and below are getting tall lengths. And I know this because they're commenting it on my TikTok, And honestly, if if I had the option, I'd probably be doing the same thing too, because I mean, I want to buy a pair of pants and know that it's going to be long enough. I am still getting talls, and most of the time they're high waters anyways, so whatever, but I just feel like the solution is to add extra long to the clothing brand. I don't understand how Old Navy got. Princess Polly hasn't done this yet. Abercrombie does it, and American Eagle does it, but I'm gonna be honest, those places are kind of expensive. I'm only buying pants from there once in a blue moon, and I want to be have the option to buy from Old Navy and get that eighteen dollars deal with pants that I know are going to fit and also are. Now I don't know if you caught this in the video, but Homegirl literally said that the girlies who are five eight and under, like under five eight, are buying tall women's clothing. And I also happened to do a stitch to this video, not specifically to that part specifically to the part where she was talking about how tall clothing is like limited or always seems sold out or whatever. But I did a stitch to that part of the video, and then somebody commented under my video that I created that short girlies shorter women are buying tall women's clothing, and I'm like, okay, Like this isn't just a coincidence, Like this is a thing. Apparently shorter women are buying tall clothing. Genuine question, though you guys have way more clothing options than us, Why are you buying something that you don't necessarily need but we actually do? So this isn't a surprise to many tall women, However, it is a surprise to me. I've actually never heard of that until I saw the TikTok video, and until I looked through the comments of that TikTok video and I got the comment under my video. Even the tall girl is on Reddit or wondering why shorter women are buying clothing that's meant for tall women and then writing bad reviews on it, like maybe it's because the clothes were not meant for you or your proportions. That's just metal. So of course I had to look ato why shorter women are buying tall clothing now? Google says a variety of things, from the lack of petite sizes to the fact that some shorter women have longer limbs, to wanting a desired fit or style, And that last part kind of fits into the comment that I received under my TikTok video saying that shorter women are buying tall clothing because they want that oversized fit. And again, it's like, if you want an oversized fit, you can shop in the men's section literally or even so, it's like the shorter girlies, let's say five to five, five four or five to three, buy like a double or triple excel in like a regular, or shop in the men's section buying tall even though we have options, Do they understand that we're still struggling. We don't have as many options as them. Why Why are you taking stuff from us that we can barely find, that we can barely get because half the time is always sold. It's sold out because the tall girlies are getting it and the short girlies are getting it now. Aside from those reasons, apparently it goes a bit further than that. I've gotten comments from well not me personally. I actually came across a video of a tall girly basically telling the short girlies, Hey, like, we don't have that many options ourselves, please stop buying tall clothing and leave it for the tall women. And so the short girlies were actually commenting under that video saying that they apparently can't find short enough jeans or the genes that they need are always sold out, so they resort to the longer jeans and just roll them up. There was actually another girly saying that she's not that tall, but she has long legs, so she had to buy long legged jeans. Gonna get back to that in a sec. I just find that interesting that the short girlies, the petite girlies are also having a harder time finding clothes because us tall girlies are always thinking, you guys have so many options, like every online store, every regular store in person store that you go to, like, you guys can find clothes, But now they're saying, oh, we can't find any clothes. It seems like the fashion industry has a height problem, because not only are tall women having a hard time finding clothes, but apparently shorter women specifically like five four, five three and under are also having a hard time. So if tall women are struggling and short women are struggling, who are y'all making clothes for? But honestly, I don't even know what to believe. Because online there are regular advertised options, there are petite options. When you go in store, there are obviously the regular options, but they also have petite sections in store, but there's no tall sections in store. So that's where I'm a little bit confused, because it's like, it really truly does seem like you guys have more options than us. Either way, short girlies and tall girlies are purchasing tall clothing, and big retailers that sell tall sizes are somehow always sold out of these tall sizes. Do you notice that too or is it just me? Either way, if you're always sold out of tall sizes, wouldn't that be a sign to provide more tall options, maybe keep more a little bit more in stock so that it's not selling as fast. I don't know. I mean, I understand that the fashion industry, the clothing industry, is not perfect, and we need to understand that and not let that affect our confidence. I mean, fashion and clothing can play a big role in our confidence, but we can't let those shortcomings get to us. Okay, That's why I always say support small tall brands. Now, if the short girlies are buying tall clothing, is this the reason why? And I know who we're making like a left turn here? Is this the reason why they feel like they could talk about what's tall girl friendly? Like, you know, I can't even say way back when because it's still ongoing. I feel like, but you know those videos of the girlies who are like five five, five six, even five seven, I just feel like it's more so the average sized girlies who are talking about what's tall girl friendly? But five five through five seven they're talking about, hey, like this pair of pants is tall girl friendly? Oh my gosh. Like there was that one video where this girl, oh my gosh. A lot of tall women did stitches or did responses to that video. There was this five to five girl who was wearing a pair of jeans and it was like a little bit below her heels, like it was dragging on the ground, and she was like, yeah, this is tall girl friendly. I'm five five and the jeans are like super long on me, and I'm sitting here like girl you're five to five as someone who's a little over five inches taller than you, do you really think that that is going to whatever she does? And know me, but some of these women, because the jeans are dragging on the ground for them, they think that it's actually tall girl friendly. And that brings me back to one of the comments from earlier in this episode where she was talking about a short girly or she said that she wasn't that tall. She was talking about how she has to buy long leged jeans because she has long legs, and this is where stuff gets confusing between long jeans and tall jeans. My biggest advice for the tall girlies when it comes to shopping is understanding the difference between long and tall. If you're a true tall girly, long clothing options aren't always going to be the best solution. And here's why. Long clothing options are simply designed for long legs and long legs only, whereas tall clothing options are designed with tall women's proportions in mind. I actually made a full TikTok video on this. Make sure you follow me on TikTok. By the way, at a Tall Girls podcast, very educational moments like these are also posted on there. That's gonna play the video right now so you could get a better understanding loung clothing versus tall clothing. They're not the same, and here's why. Fun fact, I used to own a pair of old Navy jeggings that were labeled as long, and because I have long legs, I thought, great, this will be perfect, and it was until I started getting extremely uncomfortable wedgies. Why because they were long and not tall. Long pants usually just have a longer en scene with a regular rise, whereas tall pants have a longer en scene and a longer rise to account for tall women's proportions. So if you've ever bought tall clothing from a big brand and found that they were uncomfortable or not even long enough, you are not crazy. A lot of brands don't make true tall clothing. They just make things slightly longer. So basically, when a lot of these brands make tall clothing, the tall clothing is really long simply because they have extra fabric on there. But they're not taking into consideration our proportions. So there's that. Just keep that in mind if you try to buy tall from a big brand and it's just not fitting the way it needs to fit. It really is long, but they just said tall because they put extra fabric on there. And also, if there is a girly or anybody on social media that's talking about yeah, like disclosed tall girl friendly and da da da da, and they don't include their height or they say that they're like five five five six, five seven, just take that with a grain of salt. Okay, if she's not like five to nine at least an up, I personally don't know if I would trust it. But that's just me. That's up to you. Many short girlies post their alpha pics and videos right and it's amazing. I love seeing those. Every single height deserves representation. However, many don't disclose their height. I mean not that they're absolutely obligated to, but this is just so the tall girlies can know that. Many don't disclose their height, or maybe they do it at the end. So when they're let's say, recreating outfits or recreating outfit in spell or whatever, and the tall girlies go and looking to see, hey, like, can I find this piece? Can I find that piece to also recreate that outfit? And the tall girlies are having a hard time finding it. Those pieces are not necessarily made in tall. However, there is actually a video of a short girly who is trying to recreate an outfit from Pinterest, and her question on the screen was is it a fit or is she just tall? However, she ended up proving that the fit was actually a fit and it's not because basically like kind of implying, oh, does it look good or is it because she's tall? And she makes it look good because she's tall, But she basically proved that, yeah, like the outfit was actually good. She recreated it, not necessarily to a tea, but it was very similar to that outfit, and to be honest, the actual woman in the picture from the Pinterest post that she was trying to recreate the autpha from. To be honest, that women didn't even look that tall in my person personal opinion. And however, I think there was a comment under that video too that was saying that it was Molly May, and Molly May isn't that tall? I think like five to four, And I was like, yeah, I mean I kind of figured she wasn't tall. She did not look tall in that photo. Anyways, there's actually a tall girl who made a video in response. I think she didn't say specifically it was in response to that video, but it was very similar. But you never know, there's a lot of videos that's like is it a fit or is she just tall? So basically, this tall creator made a video in response to a video that was like is it a fit or is she just tall? And I'm gonna play that. Other day I saw this girl's video and it was basically her saying is it a fit or is she just tall? Because the creator was a petite girl, and I commented in defense of all my tall queens out there saying, actually it's opposite, is it a fit or is she just petite? Because as a five to eleven woman, I can tell you the outfits that I see on TikTok and Instagram stuff do not look the same on a five eleven curvy or athletic build. Everything is bigger on us. So if you have a red pair of size five shoes in women's and a red pair of size ten women's shoes, completely different vibes. So my comment is getting a lot of likes, So that means that I'm correct in what I feel because I cannot pull off everything. Right now, I'm wearing a full camo set on a petite girl, this would be cute, cutesy pie. I look like a giant baby, a giant baby wearing pajamas. So the fact of the matter is, we have a hard time finding trendy pieces and tall or not even just trendy pieces, there are some timeless pieces that just aren't available in our size or in our desired length. So as a tall woman, and then she even spoke about being tall and curvy, being tall and curvy, tall and plus size even harder. So it's not even a point of can we recreate these fits. We don't even have them in the first place. We don't have those pieces in the first place to actually be some type of outfit in spo. I'm not saying one hundred and ten percent, okay, Like there are a lot of amazing things that look great on tall women, but it's like there are just some things that we don't have. We can't have because it's not available in our length and our desired length and our desire size. And it brings me back to an episode that I did where I basically broke down like this trend that was like oh, basic fit, because being tall and skinny is the outfit. And with all of this, I just want to say, we should stop saying that our physical characteristics like our height, our weight, our shape, whatever it may be. We need to stop saying that our physical characteristics is a quote unquote fit, especially because a lot of these characteristics, like our shape and our height and so forth and so on. Though there are are procedures for that, I'm not saying that. You should get those procedures. So, but a lot of the physical characteristics are uncontrollable, and so by saying that these uncontrollable physical characteristics that all make us unique from each other and so forth, by saying that that's a fit, it's like kind of implying that, hey, some characteristics or physical characters are better than others, because some outfits look better on those particular physical characteristics versus other physical characteristics, if that even makes any sense. What I'm trying to say here is what makes the fit is not necessarily the physical characteristics itself. What makes the fit is how the clothing items fit on you, How it fits for your particular body, how it fits for your particular skin tone, how it fits for your particular shape and so forth, for your height, for your weight. How the clothes fit on you is what makes the outfit or is what makes the fit. Basically, you should be wearing what works for you. You should be wearing what fits you well, because what looks good on one person may not necessarily look good on you, and vice versa. Just like in the case of height, what looks great on a short woman may not look great on a tall woman, and vice versa. That is just how like the Caprice trend. I'm sorry, the Caprice trene is just ridiculous. It's great for the short girlies. It looks like it looks like it can make it seem like they taller than they actually are. But on the tallament, it just looks like y'all could not find long enough pants. I'm sorry, I had to say. I had to say it. So the question here is, are shorter women ruining the tall fashion experience? Yes? And no? Okay, yes, because we need to get on the same page of what is tall girl friendly just because you're five to five and it kind of drags on the ground that doesn't and it's like, you're five to five, What about a girl who's six three. Do you really think the pants that you're you have on right now it's gonna fit someone who's six three? I think not. But we need to get on the same page of what is considered tall girl friendly and honestly, what is considered tall for a woman. In my personal opinion, it's like starting at five to nine. Maybe five A were pushing it depending on her proportions, but five A five nine is where it has to be. If you're under that, I don't know what to tell you, But overall, I feel like they're not doing this on purpose. I just think that the fashion industry just has a lot more work to do. It has a long ways to go. It made progress, but there's still more to be done. It's what I'm trying to say. So yeah, that's all for this episode. Thank you so much for tuning in. I really appreciate it, and I appreciate you. Of course, that's always feel free to hit me up on my socials. So let me know what you thought about this podcast episode. Do you think that short women are ruining the tall fashion experience? Do you think the industry itself is ruining the tall fashion experience? What do you think about shorter women buying up tall clothing that still amazes and bothers me. What do you about that? What do you think about the whole tall girl friendly situation. Let's have a conversation about this. I want to hear everybody's opinions in the comments and my dms, whatever it may be. And I hope you guys are having a great start to twenty twenty six. Until I hear from you, guys, I hope you have a great rest of your day, week, month, year, life, whatever it is for you, and I will catch you in the next one. Good night and goodbye.
