Ep 5: Tall Girl Storytime: Why I'm Never Going Back To Coney Island

Tall Girl Storytime: I’m Never Going Back to Coney Island

roller coaster, coney island, storytime, tall, tall people

Hey there! I’m happy you’re reading this! Stay a while. I have a great story for you :) Well...it may be entertaining for you, but it just brings me very very painful memories. I’m just going to jump right into it.

Summer of 2017, my idea of Coney Island turned to absolute crap. I once loved it so so much that I went to Luna Park every single summer starting in junior high. My once favorite rides: Soarin’ Eagle, Steeplechase, Electro Spin, the bumper cars always provided me with joy. By the way, if you don’t know any of these rides I am so sorry I suggest you look them up before continuing.

But the best part of it all, I was always tall enough to get on those rides. If you don’t remember any perk of being tall, always remember: No one will ever tell you you’re too short for a rollercoaster ride. Think about how cool you’d look being 10 years old, but because you’re 5’6, you can go on the BIG RIDES. Honestly, everyone would look up to you, literally and figuratively.

What I didn’t know, however, is that you can be too tall for a ride. Yeah. That’s possible. I’m a living example of that. See, here’s the problem. Rollercoasters have a height minimum (meaning you have to be at least so-and-so tall to be able to get on). ON THE OTHER HAND, they don’t have a height maximum. Yes, you read that correctly. This is so important that I’m not even being sarcastic.

I guess I can understand why there isn’t a clear height maximum because many parents often ride the kiddy rides with their children and it’s pretty clear that a lot of them are too tall for the rides, but the child can’t ride alone. But, can there be a disclaimer or something of that sort? Let me tell you why.

That day, back in Summer 2017, I decided to ride on The Tickler. That ride with the creepy clown face on the side of it. If you see a creepy looking clown face on the side of a ride, why would you even go on it? Who knows. I don’t think my judgement was the best at that point in time. Here’s why: The second I sat down in my seat my knees touched the back of the seat in front of me. Like there was no gap, no space between my knees and the seat in front of me. That can be so dangerous. But did I think anything of it? NOPE.

I give the entire rundown in my podcast episode above. It was terrible. I got injured (kind of hehe). If you want a good laugh, listen to my episode embedded above.
